Bulgaria is switching to the EUR. How will that affect me?

Get ready for the euro. Your account will be converted from BGN to EUR. On January 2, 2026, we’ll be performing scheduled maintenance to ensure a smooth transition.

Bulgaria joins the Eurozone on January 1, 2026, and the euro (€) will officially become the national currency. Skrill is committed to making this transition as seamless as possible.

What’s changing?

If you hold an account in BGN:

• Your account currency and balance will be automatically converted to EUR on January 2, 2026.

• No action is required from you.

• After the transition, you’ll continue using your account as usual, just in EUR.

Will I be charged a fee?

No additional fees will apply. The conversion will use the official fixed exchange rate:

1 EUR = 1.95583 BGN

What else should I consider?

1-tap, recurring payments and trusted Merchants

• Any preset 1-tap, recurring payments and trusted merchants will remain active after the currency change.

Crypto

• If your primary balance is in BGN, your limit orders, recurring buy orders, and price alerts will be deactivated on January 3, 2026.

• You’ll be able to create new orders and alerts using your new EUR balance.

Prepaid Card

• The currency of your Prepaid Card will automatically switch to EUR.

BGN bank withdrawals to be discontinued in December

As of 10 December 2025, Skrill will no longer support bank wire withdrawals in BGN. Transfers to Bulgarian bank accounts after this date will be processed in EUR.

We recommend that you perform your bank withdrawals before 10 December 2025 or after 02 January 2026 to avoid currency conversion.

What to do if I don’t want to change my account currency?

After January 2, 2026, we will no longer support BGN accounts. You will still be able to deposit or receive funds in BGN until January 31, 2026; however, those will be automatically converted to EUR as per the fixed rate.

If you do not agree to the change, you may terminate your contract with us immediately and without compensation before that date.

For more details, please refer to the “Cancellation” section in our current General Terms and Conditions.

What if my account balance is negative?

Your negative balance will also be converted to EUR using the official rate. You’ll still be expected to settle it in a timely manner.
