Why did my Skrill Prepaid Mastercard® payment fail?

Copied to clipboard

Your Skrill Prepaid Mastercard® payment can be rejected due to a variety of reasons. Enabling transaction notifications allows you to instantly approve, decline, and receive information on card transactions.

To enable transaction notifications, open the Skrill app and navigate to Profile > Turn on notifications.

On the Skrill website, go to Settings > Notifications > Enable Prepaid transactional emails/Enable prepaid transactional push notifications.

General card payment mistakes:

  • You’ve enteredincorrect card details such as your 16-digit card number, CVV, PIN, or card expiration date. Update any saved/auto-filled card details when making online payments. If you’re using your virtual Skrill card, check your card details by selecting the 'Show card details' option in the Skrill Card section.
  • Insufficient balance to cover the payment. Your card is linked to your primary Skrill account currency. Check if you have sufficient funds in your primary balance. Your available Skrill balance excludes any currently pending card transactions.
  • You’ve exceeded your PIN attempts. As a security precaution, your Skrill card will be blocked if a wrong PIN is entered three times in a row. Contact us using the form below if that’s the case. To check your card PIN, visit the Skrill Card section and click ‘Show card PIN’.
  • Your Skrill account or Skrill card have been locked. You can check your account status by visiting your Skrill account’s dashboard. To check your card status, visit the Skrill Card section. If locked, you will see an Unlock button.
  • You’vereached your daily, weekly or monthly card limits. To check your card limits visit the Skrill Card section.
  • You’ve exceeded the contactless payment limit. Once you reach it, you will be asked to perform a chip and PIN payment. The contactless limits are up to 5 consecutive transactions, up to 150.00 EUR in total. Once a chip and PIN payment is made, those limits are reset.
  • You’ve exceeded your CVV code attempts. Entering your CVV code incorrectly 3 consecutive times will block your card for 24 hours for online and mobile payments.

Restricted payments

  • Purchases with cashback, where you receive an amount back in cash over the counter.
  • Manually keyed-in transactions, where the cashier enters your card details manually and attempts to charge your card for payment such as mail/phone orders or car rentals. Your card PIN should be read by tapping the card or inserting the card at the POS terminal and performing a chip and PIN payment.

3D Secure verification issues

When paying online, you may be asked to approve your card transaction via push notification sent from the Skrill mobile app.

To successfully confirm such transactions, you should have the Skrill app on your Android or iOS device and enable push notifications. Review the article linked below for more information on the topic.

Technical problems

There might have been some connectivity issues between us and the merchant. Try deleting your card details from their website, troubleshooting your browser, and attempting the transaction again.
