About Ethereum Classic
Ethereum Classic is a decentralized computing platform that executes smart contracts. Applications are ran exactly as programmed without the possibility of censorship, downtime, or third-party interference.
Ethereum Classic is a distributed network consisting of a blockchain ledger, native cryptocurrency (ETC) and robust ecosystem of on-chain applications and services.
ETC maintains the original blockchain of the Ethereum network. Due to an event known as the DAO Theft, a large amount of Ethereum was stolen by a hacker. The community decided that a fork of the original blockchain reversing this theft was the best way forward, however not everyone agreed this was the best course of action. The forked blockchain reversing the hack became Ethereum, and the chain that continued the unaltered blockchain became Ethereum Classic.
