We’re all stuck inside. Yes, it’s not great.
But there’s always opportunity when things get tough. Right now, many people around the world are using self-isolation as an opportunity to learn new things and improve their skills.
From learning the guitar to buying crypto for the first time, it’s about getting creative and inspired. And for those with an interest in poker, it’s no different.
For many poker enthusiasts, self-isolation is about either transitioning from physical games of poker to online, or looking for ways to learn new techniques and improve their game while they have more time on their hands.
Here’s a rundown of some of our tips to use self-isolation to up your poker game.
1. Practice, practice, practice
Now is a good time to practice. But remember, if you’re moving from in-person to online poker, it may be a bit of an adjustment. Here are some differences to consider.
If you’re already playing online, it doesn’t hurt to do some practice games and low stakes events. Many of us have more free time, so might as well use it wisely.
No matter what your preferred gaming site, you’ll need an online wallet. With a Skrill wallet, you can move money at the touch of a button and manage your poker bankroll with ease.
2. Learn from poker pros
The internet is full of poker tips from pros and seasoned players. Spend some time exploring as there are some amazing poker tutorials and really useful techniques to learn from.
You might also want to consider checking out some pros’ attitudes to the game. Check out what poker star Fedor Holz has to say about winning mindsets in this exclusive Skrill interview.
And if you missed it, late last year poker pro Jason Koon shared some of his poker strategy.
I wrote a blog. If you’re into poker I hope you check it out. Thanks to my friends @PhilGalfond and @DWBenefield for helping me with some edits and putting my thoughts into words. https://t.co/4mh5L8VzAF

3. Try new things
Give a new technique a go. In poker, using a varied playing style not only gives you more ways to win, but it also keeps your opponents guessing. Predictable play can make you too easy to read. So mix it up!
Pick one thing to work on, maybe your pre-flop game, and spend this downtime perfecting it.
4. Take a break
If you’ve been playing for a while, you might find it useful to take some time out and relax.
The pros always advocate time out and many turn to meditation and exercise. Switch off for a while before coming back to the game refreshed.
5. Assess your performance
Take a look at your performance. Are you improving? Has the time paid off?
Take time to assess where you might be able to make changes and experiment. Try writing down what you think you need to work on and make a to-do list so you know where to focus next.
While you might need to work on your game, you don’t need to worry about your online payments not being secure or fast enough — Skrill has you covered.
