Spyro Reignited is a highly anticipated trilogy of remasters of the Playstation One classic. With the release set for 13th November this year, fans have much to look forward to.

GRAPHICS & GAMEPLAY

Looking at the footage of Spyro Reignited, you already know it’s going to have everything you want. For those of us who can remember the original Spyro from back in the day, its revival surfaces feelings of happy nostalgia.

Thanks to their studio magic, Toys For Bob (the developers behind the Reignited Trilogy) have been able to completely replicate all the levels of the original games. From where characters stand to the location and value of gems, not a single detail has been missed.

Touring through each level will be smoother than you remember. With modern controllers doing away with the awkwardness of a d-pad, moving Spyro and the camera angle at the same time will be easier than ever.

You’ll still make some howlers when aiming charges at your enemies… but it wouldn’t be Spyro if you didn’t.

AUDIO

Sound design is another element of the Spyro Reignited Trilogy that has received the best possible treatment. Thundering drums and electric guitar riffs overlaid with orchestral melodies will accompany you once more on your adventures as the purple dragon.

Stewart Copeland – the acclaimed composer of the original soundtracks of the Spyro series (and drummer for The Police!) – has returned to create a new main theme. The theme captures the same fantastical energy that echoes throughout the Spyro games.

If you really want to be taken back to your childhood, Spyro Reignited also includes the original soundtrack. By opening the remaster’s options menu in-game, you will be able to choose between the original and new soundtrack at any time.

New character voice-overs have also been recorded to complete the audio experience, with Tom Kenny returning to his role as the voice of the pun-loving dragon.

NEW ADDITIONS

The developer has gone to a lot of effort ensuring Spyro Reignited has everything fans remember, but a handful of new touches build on your Spyro experience.

New areas – complete with new puzzles – have been added throughout the trilogy, fleshing out the gameplay experience for both new and returning players. Some of these puzzles are trickier than you might expect, but not so difficult they bring your adventure to a standstill.

There are also new dimensions to the characters’ personalities, creating unexpected and entertaining interactions.

This dragon sees himself as quite the artist, as you discover him amongst a gallery of overly-dramatic self-portraits.

These details don’t just add a new layer of charm to the Spyro series, they also help to keep some of the more repetitive gameplay elements fresh and satisfying.

RELEASE

The initial release of the trilogy will be on both the Playstation 4 and Xbox One, now that Spyro is no longer a Sony console exclusive. However, you can be confident that this title will land on the Nintendo Switch and PC, as was the case with the Crash Bandicoot N. Sane Trilogy.
